Made of natural raffia

Almost every Ilona Close bag is crocheted by hand from natural raffia, a fiber that comes from the leaves of the raffia palm.

  • A natural fiberRaffia is a plant fiber, not plastic. It feels soft and dry in the hand and looks better with every season.
  • LightRaffia weighs very little, so even a large tote stays easy to carry all day.
  • Strong and holds its shapeRaffia fiber is strong, and worked in a tight stitch it keeps the bag’s sculpted lines without stretching out.
  • Takes color beautifullyRaffia holds dye well, from quiet neutrals to the brightest capsules.
  • Easy careWipe gently with a barely damp cloth and keep the bag out of the rain. If it gets wet, let it dry naturally, away from direct heat. Store it filled with tissue paper to keep the shape.

  • An organizer insideEvery bag except the crescent bags has an inner organizer made of a soft fabric that holds its shape, so everything you carry stays in its place.
  • Interchangeable handlesEach bag comes with one handle, and you can add an extra chain or leather handle to change the look with your mood. The crescent bags keep their fixed ring handles.
